We all have prayers we are happy to be heard

-or at least I do

I have prayers 

that I dance on the stage

prayers that I warfare

that I proclaim

prayers that I want to be remembered for

/

And then there are the secret prayers

prayers that I weep

and some 

-even deeper –

prayers that are so painful, I don’t even look at them

don’t even allow them to come near enough to the surface

that they form words

-deep, visceral, groanings, too strong 

to allow to move beyond the deepest 

depths of my awareness
